Windows 10 Upgrade Stuck At 99 Percentage

Reader Question:
“Hi Wally, I was upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and everything was going fine until it stopped working. The update stalled at 99% for an hour. I couldn’t hear the hard drive either. Thats when I restarted the computer, only to find that the upgrade never happened. I’m still able to use Windows 7 though. Please tell me what I should do now.” – David A., USA

Before addressing any computer issue, I always recommend scanning and repairing any underlying problems affecting your PC health and performance:

  • Step 1 : Download PC Repair & Optimizer Tool (WinThruster for Win 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP and 2000 – Microsoft Gold Certified).
  • Step 2 : Click “Start Scan” to find Windows registry issues that could be causing PC problems.
  • Step 3 : Click “Repair All” to fix all issues.

Setting up weekly (or daily) automatic scans will help prevent system problems and keep your PC running fast and trouble-free.

Wally’s Answer: It can be a troubling experience to face Windows upgrade related issues. It takes the excitement of a Windows upgraded and turns it into anxiety. Its unfortunate, but problems like this do occur sometimes. However, don’t worry. You should be able to fix this problem easily by following these steps.

Problem

The user is not able to upgrade to Windows 10.

Solution

Here are some ways to fix this Windows upgrade problem:

First, Backup Important Files

Backup -- External Hard Drive -- Windows Wally

Whenever you’re making big changes to your computer, make sure to copy important files beforehand. You can do this manually by copying important files to a USB hard disk. You can also choose to use backup utility software to compress and save all of the files at once.

Update Windows 10 Using The Media Creation Tool

You can use the Media Creation Tool provided by Microsoft to download and install the Windows 10 upgrade. This tool can be used to get an ISO (disk image) file of Windows as well.

This ISO file can then be used to upgrade to Windows 10.

Is Your PC Healthy?

I always recommend to my readers to regularly use a trusted registry cleaner and optimizer such as WinThruster or CCleaner. Many problems that you encounter can be attributed to a corrupt and bloated registry.

Happy Computing! :)
