Windows 8 Troubleshooting

Reader Question:
“Hi Wally, I am having problems with Windows 8 and wondering how to fix it?” - Lindsey D., USA

Before addressing any computer issue, I always recommend scanning and repairing any underlying problems affecting your PC health and performance:

  • Step 1 : Download PC Repair & Optimizer Tool (WinThruster for Win 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP and 2000 – Microsoft Gold Certified).
  • Step 2 : Click “Start Scan” to find Windows registry issues that could be causing PC problems.
  • Step 3 : Click “Repair All” to fix all issues.

Setting up weekly (or daily) automatic scans will help prevent system problems and keep your PC running fast and trouble-free.

Wally’s Answer:

Overview of Windows 8

For almost three decades, Microsoft been able to remain the market leader when it comes to developing computer operating systems and other software-based applications. Microsoft has undergone major changes in its product development phase over this period, spanning from early versions of Windows such as Windows 95, to the highly advanced, upcoming release of Windows 8.

Windows 8 is the newest operating system from Microsoft that is due for release in late 2012. Windows 8 comes into the market following the success of its predecessor Windows 7. Windows 8 is seen as a major technology shift and a new era of fresh, new, and innovative digital experience.

Windows 8 has a great, superb, and impeccable user interface that is designed to connect with the user in amazing ways. Windows 8 is now available as a consumer review product and the trial version can be freely downloaded over the Internet.

Windows 8 comes with a completely new user interface that purely runs on touch screen input. The operating system replaces the old desktop experience with a new “Metro” application interface that is characterized by tiles each representing an application. The Start button on the Start Menu is even gone! In its place, comes a variety of hot spot buttons.

Windows 8 boosts of other great features such as picture passwords, PIN log in, and Internet Explorer 10.

What Problems are Associated with Windows 8?

In computers, every product is usually known to have its own pitfalls. Windows 8 is still under a trial version that is being tested by users across the world to identify any bugs and errors that need to be corrected before its worldwide release in late 2012.

Most users using this operating system in trial mode have noted that it is difficult to close applications in Windows 8. This causes multiple applications, including the ones that were meant to be closed, to continue running in the background. Thus, this places excessive strain on the CPU, which in turn slows down the computer as a result of continuous resource consumption.

Most trial version users have also noted that the Windows 8 Metro interface is unfriendly when it comes to shutting down. Unlike Windows 7 and other earlier versions of Windows, the Windows 8 shutdown button is hidden within the Metro interface. You must first log off the machine in order to access the shutdown button; you can no longer directly shutdown Windows. For obvious reasons, many people find this an unnecessary process that is long and wastes time.

There have been other complaints that it is difficult to change the green desktop background color on Windows 8. This forces users to stay on a specific desktop background that they do not want.

Since the product is still in trial, Microsoft is documenting and looking into all these issues to ensure that most major bugs are adequately resolved before the official release.

Is Your PC Healthy?

I always recommend to my readers to regularly use a trusted registry cleaner and optimizer such as WinThruster or CCleaner. Many problems that you encounter can be attributed to a corrupt and bloated registry.

Happy Computing! :)
