High CPU Usage Troubleshooting

Reader Question:
“Hi Wally, I am having problems with High CPU Usage and wondering how to fix it?“ - Maria N., New Zealand

Before addressing any computer issue, I always recommend scanning and repairing any underlying problems affecting your PC health and performance:

  • Step 1 : Download PC Repair & Optimizer Tool (WinThruster for Win 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP and 2000 – Microsoft Gold Certified).
  • Step 2 : Click “Start Scan” to find Windows registry issues that could be causing PC problems.
  • Step 3 : Click “Repair All” to fix all issues.

Setting up weekly (or daily) automatic scans will help prevent system problems and keep your PC running fast and trouble-free.

Wally’s Answer:

Overview of High CPU Usage

High CPU Usage is not something that most people know anything about unless they have experienced some of the issues that occur due to it.

High CPU usage can be caused by many different things, including both legitimate programs and illegitimate programs, as well as hard drive issues. High CPU usage is when many different programs are being run at one time, which causes the CPU to have to work harder than normal.

Programs, downloaded media, and even virus checkers can be a cause for high CPU usage and this can cause many different effects. Other things that can lead to high CPU usage include spyware, malware, and viruses, which can cause the processor to work harder and faster. In addition, a hard drive that is damaged can be not as efficient in processing and this can lead to high CPU usage.

A virus combined with normal programs can be what sends your central processing unit over the edge in its usage and can cause problems for your computer.

What Problems are Associated with High CPU Usage?

When you are experiencing high CPU usage, you may not even realize it. You may only notice that your computer has slowed down in its response time and that at times it seems to freeze.

It may come up on your slow, but it is something that you will definitely notice after a while. You may think it is due to your computer’s age, but high CPU usage can be the culprit. It can cause your computer to have to struggle to keep up with your usage and this will begin to slow it down and can cause error messages more frequently.

Another issue that you may be noticing is that your computer seems to get very hot. This is especially noticeable in a laptop, but you can also tell from a desktop, in that your fan will seem to run quite a bit. This is a sign of high CPU usage and a sign that you need to consider how to get your computer’s high CPU usage to decrease and allow your computer to work more efficiently.

Is Your PC Healthy?

I always recommend to my readers to regularly use a trusted registry cleaner and optimizer such as WinThruster or CCleaner. Many problems that you encounter can be attributed to a corrupt and bloated registry.

Happy Computing! :)
